Curriculum
Performing Arts
We are very lucky at Moonta Area School to have specialist performing arts teachers who provide outstanding learning opportunities for our students.
We provide performance opportunities within the school and at community events, including our annual Music Concert, Public and Proud Showcase and the Christmas Carols.
Specialist Subjects
From R-6 students attend a specialised Performing Arts program every week, for one or two lessons, depending on their year level. The areas offered are Music, Dance, Drama and Media Arts.
The Performing Arts are taught in a 2 yearly cycle, so one year students will do Music and Media Arts, and the following year, Drama and Dance.
From Year 7, students complete a semester of The Arts, in Music or Drama.
Students have the opportunity to perform at school and community events, as well as at our end of year events.
Festival of Music Choir
Students from Years 4-7 are encouraged to join our school choir. The choir practises weekly, with students learning the repertoire for the annual Primary School’s Music Festival at the Festival Theatre in Adelaide.
Our choir students are regularly invited to perform at local events in the community, including Carols in the Park, the Senior Citizen’s Centre, and the local nursing home. They regularly perform at school assemblies and special events, including our annual Public and Proud Showcase, Music Concert and Awards Assemblies.
Instrumental Music Lessons
From Year 5, students are invited to attend instrumental lessons, with current instruments on offer including trumpet, flute, clarinet, saxophone, keyboard and guitar. Along with Department for Education instrumental teachers, private providers also teach keyboard at school, with students commencing these lessons from a younger age.
Band
Secondary students can join the school band, which showcases the many talents of our students, and features singers, guitars, percussion and woodwind instruments. The band students rehearse weekly and perform at a range of school and community events.
